Nasal polyps are noncancerous growths in the nasal passages and sinuses that can cause sinus issues and occasionally breathing problems. Most of the time, nasal polyps are not easily visible. Though, when they are, patients sometimes feel like they can remove them themselves or simply “pop” them like a zit. So, can you pop a nasal polyp?

Technically, the answer is yes. However, you should NOT try to remove or pop a nasal polyp. Doing so can cause more damage than the simple procedure to remove them, if necessary. Also, often it is possible to shrink polyps to where they no longer cause issues. Removing them at home can cause bleeding, inflammation, and infections. Additionally, most attempts to remove them at home fail.

Dr. Santos can remove nasal polyps with a simple procedure. It usually requires general anesthesia, but is a short procedure and requires little downtime and recovery compared to other surgeries. Sometimes, if the polyps are visible, Dr. Santos may be able to remove them without full sedation.
