It is estimated that up to 80% of people have a deviated septum. For many of these people, it is not noticeable or troublesome. However, for others, a deviated septum can cause issues including chronic sinusitis, breathing problems, and even worsen conditions such as asthma and sleep apnea. Thus, due to the problems, can cause people to ask, “Can a deviated septum be cured?”

A surgery known as a septoplasty can permanently correct a deviated septum. Therefore, this may be considered “cured”. However, it is important to note that patients can still experience some of the conditions that a septoplasty worsened or caused. Though, it should improve overall breathing and hopefully reduce symptoms such as the frequency of sinus infections.

In most cases, a deviated septum can completely be corrected. Occasionally, a deviated septum may be so severe that full correction is not possible. This is exceptionally rare, but improvement is almost always achieved to the point of significantly improving quality of life.
